Teen Van Horn Cup 2021

Event Date(s):
July 25, 2021

Overview

Following the three-day championship, qualifying boys and girls from each age group are selected to play in the Teen Van Horn Cup, a one-day best ball tournament contested on Pinehurst No. 2.

Selection Process

Teen Van Horn Cup participants will be selected based on score after 36 holes (Round 2). Once 36-hole scores are compiled, the Teen Van Horn Cup selections and an alternate list will be published. Selected players will receive a special Teen Van Horn Cup bag, hat, and caddie bib for the competition.

Format:

Team Best Ball Stroke Play

In each of the nine matches, the team with the lowest score after 18 holes will win one point for his/her team. If the competition ends in a tie, a playoff will determine the winner.

2020 Recap

With COVID-19 limiting International participation in the 2020 World Teen Championship, the event format was changed to feature a Red vs. Blue format instead of the traditional United States v. International format. Despite an early lead from the Red Team, the Blue Team battled back to secure a 6-3 win.

Each year, the boys and girls pairings with the lowest rounds in the Teen Van Horn Cup are awarded a Morrison Medal, named in honor of the late Sir Garth Morrison, who was Lord Lieutenant for East Lothian, and his wife Lady Gill Morrison.

Sam Udovich (Minnesota) and Nicholas Gross (Pennsylvania) of the Red Team secured Morrison Medal honors with a score of 63 (-9).

Two girls groups shared Morrison Medal honors, as Helen Yeung (Maryland) and Morgan Guepet (Louisiana) secured a point for the Red Team with a score of 68 (-4). This was matched by Madison Starke (California) and Brianna Castaldi (Florida). Their point secured the Cup for the Blue Team.
